CNN in Paris —
The girl's mother wrote on Facebook that her daughter was sporting white trousers, a white hoodie, and her gray backpack. She asked for help in locating her.
Delphine Daviet's post was finished off by two images beneath her message. In one, 12-year-old Lola smiles for the camera, while at the other, a woman is visible in a doorway in a pixelated still image taken from security camera footage.
Just hours after her mother sent this message on October 14, Lola's body was discovered mangled and packed into a plastic box in a case that has rocked France. The woman who was with Lola the last time she was seen alive was captured on camera, according to her mother, in the apartment complex where the family resides.
According to the police prosecutor's statement, the woman's account of what happened during questioning "veered between acknowledging and contesting of the facts," although she disclosed that she had taken Lola to her sister's apartment, who lived in the same apartment building. According to the statement, she is currently the subject of an official inquiry into Lola's murder.
There, she allegedly admitted to "committing sexual assaults and other violent acts against her that culminated in her death," before concealing the child's body in the plastic box. She also allegedly claimed that she forced the kid to take a shower.
It doesn't want to enter my thoughts, Lola's schoolmate Hafida said in a statement to CNN affiliate BFMTV. I'm trying to convince myself that I'll see her at recess instead of now, but shes no more
The mother of a Lola friend who used to spend the night at their home, Bamba, also voiced her horror at what had transpired. She told BFMTV, "I can't believe it; I'm telling myself that's not possible; it could happen to anyone, including me.
In memory of a life brutally cut short, flowers were amassing outside Lola's apartment building on Tuesday afternoon. The 19th arrondissement mayor said in a statement that local officials in the Paris neighborhood where the assassination took place have also launched a support center for residents, particularly students, and increased police patrols around schools.
According to the prosecutor's statement, the 24-year-old woman was taken to his residence outside of Paris with her bags and the plastic box, and he arranged for her to take a cab back to the city with the box and cases.
According to the police prosecutor statement, investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the precise circumstances leading up to the murder.
